SUMMARY:PolSCA webinar series on Horizon EuropeOpen Science in practice (part 2): Publishing strategies & platforms with focus on Open Research Europe
DESCRIPTION:At the end of 2022\, PolSCA has organized the first webinar on Open Science in practice: Implications for project proposals and research management. The primary focus of that webinar was to familiarize the audience with Open Science (OS) policy and Open Access (OA)\, and their role in project proposals\, research management and in valorization of research results. \n\n\n\nThis time\, with Open Science in practice: publishing strategies & platforms we would like to focus on current tendencies and add to a public discussion stimulated by recent Council’s Conclusions on ensuring high-quality\, transparent\, open\, trustworthy\, and equitable scholarly publishing – so far statements referring to Council Conclusions were issued by (among others) LERU – the League of European Research Universities\, the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities\, CESAER – Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research\, and – in the form of joint response – by EUA\, Science Europe\, LIBER\, ALLEA\, AERG\, MCAA\, Eurodoc\, cOAlition S\, OPERAS\, and ANR. \n\n\n\nWe will start the webinar with the presentation on the European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda & the Council Conclusions on Open Science. \n\n\n\nNext\, representatives of the European Commission as well as European and Polish stakeholders will take part in the discussion panel on Open Science practices towards maximising the impact of the EU funding and strengthening the principles of the ERA that aims to create a single\, borderless market for research\, innovation\, and technology across the EU. \n\n\n\nThen\, we would like to deepen the knowledge of the audience on publishing models\, Open Access\, and practicalities of publishing with Open Research Europe platform. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe webinar will take place online on June 21\, (Wednesday) from 9.30 – 11.30. \n\n\n\nThe agenda of the meeting is available here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTRATION for the webinar is available here (please register no later than June 19). \n\n\n\nA Webex link to the meeting will be send to the registered participants prior to the event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe main objective of the activities undertaken as part of the PolSCA Webinar series is to strengthen the knowledge of the EU framework programme for research and innovation – Horizon Europe (HE) among representatives of the scientific community of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS). The participation in Horizon Europe (2021-2027) will undoubtedly be a great challenge for scientists and research units in Poland\, including employees of the PAS Institutes. Yet\, Horizon Europe programme\, with a budget of EUR 95.5 billion\, clearly provides a great opportunity to implement ambitious R&D projects\, largely based on multilateral scientific cooperation. \n\n\n\nThe synergy of various activities initiated within the PASIFIC programme under the PAS headquarters\, combined with dissemination and training activities undertaken by the PolSCA Office in accordance with its mission shall contribute to increasing the effective participation of the research institutes of the PAS in projects funded under Horizon Europe. To further enable that\, PolSCA is involved in building and strengthening an informal support network dedicated to scientists and research managers of the PAS institutes in the context of the EU framework program for research and innovation\, with an emphasis on Horizon Europe

In this regard\, we have invited Prof. Magdalena Stobinska (UW)\, who heads the Quantum Technologies Research Group “QCAT” at the Faculty of Physics\, University of Warsaw\, to participate in the event. \n\n\n\nDetails of the panel below: \n\n\n\nThe current period of technological evolution is proving to be the most disruptive one in history\,surpassing even the advent of the internet. Emerging technologies and ongoing research andinnovations in domains such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing are set to bringabout wide-ranging implications for our society and economies\, including new cybersecurity risksand threats. Implementation of some of these technologies in real-life use cases has already begunto change the way people live\, learn\, work\, and socialize. For example\, AI helps companies tointeract with their customers more effectively. AI helps doctors to better treat their patients. AIhelps governments to provide their services more efficiently. At the same time\, to name just a fewrisks: There is growing evidence of AI being used by hackers and malicious actors. AI also makes thegeneration of disinformation and deep fakes far easier than in the past. Quantum technologiesmight not be as mature as AI at this moment\, but the benefits and the risks they will bring in thefuture are equally considerable. \n\n\n\nMagdalena Stobińska\, Professor\, University of WarsawIvan Kotuliak\, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies\, Slovak TechnicalUniversity in BratislavaJakub Harašta\, Assistant professor\, Institute of Law and Technology\, Masaryk UniversityImre Lendák\, Associate Professor\, Data Science and Engineering Department (DSED)\, Faculty ofInformatics\, Eötvös Loránd University

SUMMARY:PAS - CNR Horizon Europe Networking Event
DESCRIPTION:Based on bilateral agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and the National Research Council of Italy (CNR)\, as well as close cooperation of respective liaison offices based on the IGLO framework\, an on-line networking event focusing on the Horizon Europe cooperation will be organised jointly. It will feature research units with preidentified interested in taking up the PAS/CNP partnership. By bringing together excellent scientist and research managers from selected PAS and CNR units\, it is expected to identify potential new partnerships that could lead to joint HE grant applications. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Polish Academy of Sciences and the National Research Council of Italy as the research performing organisations\, both recognise the key value of international collaborative research. In order to support this notion\, respective Brussels-based liaison offices are operational\, i.e. PolSCA PAN Office and CNR Brussels Branch. Their shared mission is to provide stakeholders with relevant information and appropriate level of assistance in the process of applying for EU Framework Program’s grants\, currently mainly Horizon Europe funding. One of the means to achieve that is via enabling partner searches and consortia building processes. \n\n\n\nAs a necessary preparatory steps\, PolSCA identified individual researchers and research groups as well as  PAS Institutes highly interested in (i) establishing new academic partnership with researcher(s) of the CNR or (ii) further developing existing cooperation within a framework of Horizon Europe. PAS stakeholders were asked to provide information regarding their interest in given CNR research unit(s) and specific individual research groups (PIs). Active participation in the networking exercise requires presentation of the PAS institute and its particular interests in cooperation as well as taking part in bilateral meetings between given PAS/CNR units. \n\n\n\nBased on the gathered responses\, identified CNR stakeholders were approached by the CNR Brussels Branch in order to assess their reciprocal interests in networking event. Based on the research matches\, the final agenda was drawn up. Potential research ideas for joint proposals could be developed further by joint activities of PAS and CNR Brussels offices\, including also on-site project development and consortia building meetings.

In alignment with 8 ambitions of the EU’s open science policy\, the webinar aims to broaden the knowledge on the logic of maximising the impacts of the EU research & innovation funding\, derived from the Implementation Strategy for Horizon Europe\, and principles of the European Research Area (ERA) that aims to create a single\, borderless market for research\, innovation and technology across the EU. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs both project planning and management as well as communication\, dissemination\, and exploitation activities are crucial for Horizon Europe projects\, making research data FAIR (Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable and Re-usable) is set to become the default for the results of EU-funded scientific research. \n\n\n\nWith the open access as a practice of providing online access to scientific information that is free of charge and reusable\, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) delivers space where researchers\, innovators\, companies\, and citizens can publish\, find and (re)use data for research\, innovation\, and educational purposes. \n\n\n\nFinally\, the Open Research Europe is an open access publishing platform for the publication of research stemming from Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe funding across all subject areas\, that is established to boost the communication\, dissemination\, and exploitation of the research results of projects funded under Horizon Europe. \n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the webinar we will tackle topics like: \n\n\n\nEuropean Commission’s policies and initiatives on open science \n\n\n\nFAIR data and the European Open Science Cloud \n\n\n\nOpen Science in practice of data management \n\n\n\nDissemination & Exploitation Strategy – using Horizon Results Booster and the Horizon Results Platform \n\n\n\n\n\nThe event is open only to academics and research managers of the Polish Academy of Sciences. \n\n\n\nThe webinar will take place online on November 10\, 2022 (Thursday) from 9.30 – 12.30. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe full agenda of the meeting is available here. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe main objective of the activities undertaken as part of the PolSCA Webinar series is to strengthen the knowledge of the EU framework programme for research and innovation – Horizon Europe (HE) among representatives of the scientific community of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS).

SUMMARY:Webinar “Gender equality in European Research\, Innovation and Higher Education. How to enhance scientific excellence through Gender Equality Plans?”
DESCRIPTION:The EU is committed to advancing gender equality in all areas\, the Research and Innovation (R&I) sector being no exception. Despite the progress achieved\, many structural barriers to gender equality in research and innovation persist. The She Figures 2021 report provides data and analysis for approximately 88 indicators monitoring the state of gender equality in R&I across Europe. A new indicator shows that women represented less than a quarter of self-employed professionals in Science and Engineering (S&E) and ICT. Furthermore\, gender equality has been mainstreamed in the Horizon Europe programme\, i.e. by Gender Equality Plans. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo contribute to the development\, CZELO\, LINO\, PolSCA\, and SLORD jointly organize a virtual event “Gender equality in European Research\, Innovation and Higher Education. How to enhance scientific excellence through Gender Equality Plans?”. \n\n\n\nThe objective of this event is to give an overview of the latest EU gender policy developments.
