SUMMARY:Meeting with an expert: New trends in technology for renewable sources using nanomaterials
DESCRIPTION:The Polish Science Contact Agency in Brussels is delighted to invite you for a meeting with the expert prof. Monika Kwoka entitled “New trends in technology for renewable sources using nanomaterials”. The meeting will take place on 9th December 2019 between 9.30-11.30 at the PolSCA premises at Rue du Trone 98 (first floor). \n  \nDescription: \nPhotovoltaics technology\, which converts solar energy into electricity is expected to be the most promising strategy among the common clean renewable energy sources. It is well known that already the fourth generations of the photovoltaic cells based on the various type inorganic and organic semiconductor nanostructures (hetero-junctions) have been elaborated. Apart from above\, the most important parts of every solar cell are the transparent electrodes\, the light trapping layers\, as well as electron transport layers\, which are commonly based on the transparent conductive oxides (TCO)\, and directly determined its final efficiency. \nThis presentation will show a novel trends in the technology and characterization of the low dimensional TCO nanostructures for above mentioned potential photovoltaic\, including mainly zinc oxide ZnO\, titanium dioxide TiO2 and tin dioxide SnO2\, with a special emphasis on their specific surface/interface properties playing a crucial role in electron charge transport inside the solar cells. \n  \n  \n \nProf. Monika Kwoka obtained her master’s degree in engineering in technical physics in 2003 – specialization: Optoelectronics\, in 2007. doctoral degree in physical sciences\, and in 2015 at the Faculty of Automatic Control\, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice\, postdoctoral degree in technical sciences\, discipline Electronics. She deals with nanotechnology of electronic materials and their application in environmental monitoring and medicine\, cooperating with the best research centers around the world. \nCurrently\, she is a professor at the Silesian University of Technology\, working at the Faculty of Automatic Control Electronics and Computer Science as deputy dean for Science and International Cooperation. Winner of many awards and distinctions\, including the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Scholarship for an Outstanding Young Scientist and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Award for scientific achievements. Participates in projects of the European Commission and financed by the National Center for Research and Development\, National Science Center and Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Vice-president of the Academy of Young Scholars of the Polish Academy of Sciences\, as well as a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences Committee for the dissemination of science.

SUMMARY:Conference 'The Future of the EU\, Military Cooperation and Transatlantic Relations' (Paris)
DESCRIPTION:On 10th October 2019 the conference ‘The Future of the EU\, military cooperation and transatlantic relations from Polish and French perspective” will be held in Scientific Centre of PAS in Paris. Director of the Polish Science Contact Agency\, prof. Małgorzata Molęda-Zdziech will participate in the first discussion panel ‘A landscape after elections to the European Parliament: convergences\, differences\, challenges of Polish and French European policy’. \nThe aim of the conference is to allow experts and academics from Poland and France to exchange analyzes and experiences on three central topics for both countries and societies. The panelists will present the facts and perspectives on the future of the EU\, military cooperation of both countries\, and relations between Europe and the USA\, which are changing so dynamically. \nSelected topics are not only fundamental for the future of Europe or transatlantic relations\, but above all are of key importance for bilateral relations. Both Poland and France cooperate closely with the military\, but they can also boast of good relations with the United States\, which makes these countries potential partners caring or mediating for the best transatlantic relations\, despite the unpredictability of President Donald Trump. In addition\, the policy of recent years has caused the growth of stereotypes and misunderstanding in bilateral relations. First of all\, the conference will be an opportunity to exchange observations by panelists from both countries. Secondly\, the audience invited to the event at the Polish Academy of Sciences will be able to familiarize themselves with the in-depth Polish and French perspective on topics as current as the future\, reforms of the EU and its relations with the United States. \nA detailed programme can be found here: http://paris.pan.pl/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Program_Paris_10_10_19.pdf. \nThe co-organizers are The Polish Science Contact Agency in Brussels and The Polish Institute of International Affairs.
