SUMMARY:Conference 'Capitalism\, personality and culture'
DESCRIPTION:On April 11-13\, 2019 a conference ‘Capitalism\, personality and culture’ will be held in Paris. One of the co-organisers is the Scientific Station of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Paris. \nThe aim of this conference is to present\, in a multidisciplinary way\, various relations between capitalism\, personality and culture\, and confront different contemporary perspectives\, concerning this topic. The effects of trade and industry have been the subject of philosophers\, playwrights and commentators’ reflection since ancient times. This reflection has increased with the development of commercial and capitalist enterprises in Europe since the 18th century. Theatre\, novels and the development of new political and social theories were the source of enlightenment in the same way as philosophy. In the twentieth century\, cinema and television often discussed these issues\, which continue to be of interest to both public and academic environment. \nDuring this conference director of the Polish Science Contact Agency\, dr hab. Małgorzata Molęda-Zdziech will present a paper Which capitalism? – some scenarios of capitalism in postmodern sociological approaches (Z.Bauman\, A.Giddens\, R. Sennett)\, while dr Justyna Kramarczyk\, specialist in PolSCA\, will give a speech entitled Winners or losers? Capitalist transformation\, time and personality – a Polish perspective. \nThe initial program and other information about the conference can be found here.

SUMMARY:Event :: European AI strategies
DESCRIPTION:European AI Strategies: Where Do Member States Stand\, and Where are They Headed? \nTo remain competitive in the global race for artificial intelligence (AI)\, the European Union will need more investment\, more workers trained in AI-relevant skills\, more shared resources including data\, and a regulatory environment that will foster the development and use of AI. To that end\, in December the European Commission released a “Coordinated Plan on AI” which encourages all member states to develop their own national AI strategies by mid-2019 and to work with the Commission to develop common metrics to measure AI adoption. \nWhile some member states have already created national AI strategies\, others have not or have only included dimensions of AI within broader digital strategies. Moreover\, every member state is different\, so the policies\, priorities\, and financial commitments in each national AI strategy will vary. \nJoin the Center for Data Innovation for a discussion that will take stock of the progress achieved so far across member states; compare targets\, priorities\, and dimensions; and assess the extent to which these national strategies will support Europe’s goal of becoming a global leader in AI. \nSpeakers confirmed: \n\nEline Chivot\, Senior Policy Analyst\, Center for Data Innovation\nIrina Orssich\, Policy Officer at DG CONNECT\, European Commission\nJanne Peltola\, Counselor for Competitiveness (Industry and Internal Market)\, Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU\nPascal Rogard\, Digital\, Telecom and Postal Service Counselor\, Permanent Representation of France to the EU\nVirginijus Sinkevičius\, Lithuania’s Minister of Economy and Innovation\nClaudine Vliegen\, Attaché for Telecom and Digital Affairs\, Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the EU\n\nFollow @DataInnovation and join the discussion on Twitter with the hashtag #datainnovation. \nThe Center for Data Innovation is a non-profit\, non-partisan think tank working at the intersection of data and public policy. It conducts high-quality\, independent research and educational activities on the impact of the increased use of information on the economy and society. In addition\, the Center for Data Innovation formulates and promotes pragmatic public policies designed to enable data-driven innovation in the public and private sector\, create new economic opportunities\, and improve quality of life.

SUMMARY:Conference :: Brain Research & Tech
DESCRIPTION:  \nUnderstanding and healing the human brain is one of the most exciting challenges of the 21st century. For centuries we have been attracted by the mystery of thought and consciousness\, but it is only now that we have the technical and scientific foundation to advance. Is consciousness fundamental for the emergence of thought? Will Artificial Intelligence need to be conscious? And can we repair our mind once it has been damaged? \nAddressing these questions requires boldness\, is necessarily interdisciplinary and needs close coordination amongst scientists\, clinicians\, industry partners and policy makers. In Europe\, we decided to accept this challenge and push the frontiers of our knowledge through efforts such as the European flagship Human Brain Project\, the European Open Science Cloud\, and our investments in High Performance Computing. \nBut how will we succeed? Aix-Marseille University – AMU\, a European leader in brain health and technology\, responds together with its scientific and industrial partners across the continent. The event will take place on the 6th of March 2019 at the European Committee of the Regions \nMore information\, agenda and regiastration is available at EVENTBRITE

SUMMARY:OaSIS project consortium meeting
DESCRIPTION:On January 24\, the first meeting of the OaSIS project consortium coordinated by the Cracow University of Technology will take place in PolSCA Office in Brussels. The project concerns the optimization of support methods for innovative enterprises (SMEs) and their segmentation and is financed under the INNOSUP programme from HORIZON 2020. \nThe goal of the OaSIS project is to strengthen Europe’s economic growth and innovation potential by optimizing innovation support programmes distributed by regional development agencies and public administrations. Optimization will be achieved by segmenting innovative SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises)\, identifying groups of entrepreneurs with the highest growth potential and directing them to various programmes\, which they will be able to achieve results corresponding to their needs\, potential and ambitions. Such analysis leads to a better understanding of innovation opportunities and activities\, as well as their results\, achieving greater economic and social impact of innovation support programmes and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of innovation support agencies. \nTo implement the above project\, the Cracow University of Technology plans to cooperate with the following international partners: \nEURADA – European Association of Regional Development Agencies of Belgium\, associating 65 agencies from 21 European Union countries – www.eurada.org\nLinknovate – Spanish Start-Up dealing with the analysis of large data sets in a way that allows the discovery of correlations based on historical data www.linknovate.com \nInformation leaflet for the OaSIS project: http://www.portaloasis.com/ \nSource: OaSIS project

SUMMARY:Circular economy in Visegrad Group (V4) countries – current state and challenges
DESCRIPTION:A circular economy is an industrial system that replaces the ‘end-of-life’ concept with restoration\, shifts towards the use of renewable energy\, eliminates the use of toxic chemicals\, which impair reuse\, and aims for the elimination of waste through the superior design of materials\, products\, systems\, and\, within this\, business models. \nThe elements of circular economy include: \n\nwaste management\,\na strict differentiation between consumable and durable components of a product\, replacement the concept of a consumer with that of a user\,\nenergy efficiency.\n\nA circular economy requires improvements in material selection and product design (circular design)\, innovative business models\, increase in general awareness and creation the skill base. \nA transition towards circular economy will therefore generate new jobs\, increase productivity and will boost R&I activities. The latter may be treated as a circular economy enablers. \nThe European Commission adopted an ambitious Circular Economy Package that establishes a concrete and ambitious programme of action\, with measures covering the whole cycle: from production and consumption to waste management and the market for secondary raw materials. \nFor all V4 countries implementation of a circular economy is a chance for a faster economic growth respecting sustainability principle and taking into account social needs. The aim of the event is to share experience of V4 countries in implementation of circular economy\, presentation of the best practices in this field including social innovation and discussion of main challenges. \n \nAGENDA\n\n\n9.30 – 10.00\nREGISTRATION\n\n10.00 – 10.30\nINTRODUCTION\n\nKarolina D’Cunha\, Deputy Head of Unit European Commission DG Environment\, Directorate B Circular Economy & Green Growth\nVasileios Rizos\, Research Fellow\, CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies)\n\n\n10.30-11.15\nPART I – MAIN R&I ACTIVITIES RELATED TO CIRCULAR ECONOMY\nKarolina Zázvorková – moderator\, European Commission DG Environment\nDirectorate B3 – Waste Management & Secondary Materials \n\nBarna Kovács – advisor to BIOEAST\, Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture\, Hungary\nPavol Alexy\, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava\, Slovakia\nVladimír Kočí\, University of Chemistry and Technology\, Prague\, Czech Republic\n\n\n11.15-11.30\nLET’S TALK ABOUT GARBAGE EXHIBITION\n\nMarcin Szczelina\, Architecture Snobs\, Poland\n\n\n11.30 – 12.00\nCOFFEE BREAK\n\n12.00-13.30\nPART II – GOOD PRACTICES\nMałgorzata Gołębiewska – moderator\, European Commission\nDG Environment\, Directorate B Circular Economy & Green Growth \n\nTomasz Wojciechowski\, Circular Economy Institute\, Poland\nKatarzyna Barc\, Oddam Odpady Initiative\, Poland\nMiroslav Galamboš\, Panaraplast\, Slovakia\nJiří Brejcha\, MITAS a. s.\, Czech Republic\n\n\n13.30 – 14.30\nLUNCH\n  \n  \nPRESENTATIONS: \nBarna Kovacs \nJiri Brejcha \nVasileios Rizos \nMarcin Szczelina \nVladimir Koci \nKatarzyna Barc \n  \n                                                    COORGANIZORS\n \n  \n  \n                        PARTNER \n \n
