DESCRIPTION:European AI Strategies: Where Do Member States Stand\, and Where are They Headed? \nTo remain competitive in the global race for artificial intelligence (AI)\, the European Union will need more investment\, more workers trained in AI-relevant skills\, more shared resources including data\, and a regulatory environment that will foster the development and use of AI. To that end\, in December the European Commission released a “Coordinated Plan on AI” which encourages all member states to develop their own national AI strategies by mid-2019 and to work with the Commission to develop common metrics to measure AI adoption. \nWhile some member states have already created national AI strategies\, others have not or have only included dimensions of AI within broader digital strategies. SUMMARY:Invitation to the Horizon2020 Info Day
DESCRIPTION:The National Contact Point for Research Programs of the European Union and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education invite you to the Horizon2020 Info Day\, which will take place on 4 April 2019 at the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer Management of Warsaw University of Technology (CZIiTT PW)\, ul. Rektorska 4\, Warsaw. \nThe meeting will be an opportunity to get acquainted with selected examples of Polish projects implemented under the Horizon2020 program and the possibilities of applying for funds within 2019-2020 Work Programmes competitions. As part of the event\, it will be possible to take part in short\, parallel thematic sessions conducted by NCP experts on selected activities in the Horizon2020 program and detailed rules for applying in open competitions. As part of the session\, presentations of instruments such as the prestigious ERC or pilot EIC will take place\, more about which development can be read HERE or activities within the framework of “Sharing excellence and widening participation” (SEWP) and many others. \nThe event is addressed to individuals and entities interested in applying to the framework programs\, but above all to new participants who would like to get interested in EU grants and encourage participation in the Horizon2020 program. \nThe PolSCA office supports the efforts of researchers working in Poland and national scientific units in applying for funds from the Horizon2020 framework program as a natural element of the research and innovation support ecosystem\, complementary to national and regional sources. It is worth emphasizing\, however\, that in accordance with the new rules regarding the evaluation of scientific units\, participation in H2020 projects will be doubly rewarded\, and in the case of ERC grants\, quadruple. \nIndividuals and teams having an idea for the project and preparing applications are also invited to individual consultations with our experts. DESCRIPTION:On 4 April 2019\, the EuroTech Universities Alliance is organising an evening event to discuss a potential future EU research and innovation mission on cancer. In preparation for the potential mission\, the EuroTech Universities Alliance has invited a diverse group of leading experts in cancer and health technologies across its member universities to develop some key recommendations. The members of the EuroTech cancer mission think-tank are: \n\nDouglas Hanahan\, Professor and Director of the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research\, EPFL (Chair)\nSine Reker Hadrup\, Professor at Department of Health Technology\, DTU\nAlexis Gautreau\, Chair of the Biology Department\, L’X\nYuval Shaked\, Professor at Faculty of Medicine\, Technion and Technion-Israel Integrated Cancer Center\nJurjen Tel\, Assistant Professor in Immuno-engineering\, TU/e\nWolfgang Weber\, Professor and Director of the Clinic for Nuclear Medicine\, University Hospital Rechts der Isar\, TUM.\n\nThe recommendations will be presented at the event by Douglas Hanahan\, Professor and Director of the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research\, EPFL and Chair of the EuroTech cancer mission think-tank. Prof. Hanahan’s intervention will be followed by specific feedback from key stakeholders in the form of a panel debate and a broader discussion with the audience. SUMMARY:The Future of Gender Equality in European Research and Innovation
DESCRIPTION:On 9th April\, 2019 the Horizon 2020 GENDERACTION project is organising the conference The Future of Gender Equality in European Research and Innovation. The aim of event is to set the stage for the future of gender equality in Europe. In 2019 Europe celebrates 20 years of activities for gender equality in research and in 2020 ERA priorities of which gender equality and gender mainstreaming is one\, will be reviewed. Given the recent backsliding of and backlash against gender research and gender equality in some European countries\, it is of vital important to reinvigorate our joint efforts to promote gender equality in European research. \nResearch funders\, structural change and innovation including open innovation will continue to play a major role in European research. The event will bring together policy makers and gender experts\, practitioners and scholars to address their future concerns and needs for the future of gender equality in European research and innovation. SUMMARY:Conference "3rd Interdisciplinary FNP Conference"
DESCRIPTION:On 11 and 12 April 2019\, the 3 Interdisciplinary FNP Conference will take place in Warsaw. \nThe conference is addressed to the project leaders\, as well as team members in projects selected in the open competitions managed by the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP)\, which received funding under the Smart Growth Operational Program. As part of the conference\, which will be held entirely in English\, two thematic scientific sessions and two sessions of the laureates’ projects presentation will be organized along with discussions at the posters in the intervals. There will also be discussions in smaller thematic groups\, e.g. international cooperation\, open science\, training and mentoring for young generations of scientists. The Foundation’s current activities will also be discussed. \nOn the part of the PolSCA Offcie\, dr Tomasz Poprawka will take part in the conference\, who will give a lecture entitled “What is on the Horizon after Horizon 2020?” \nMore information about the conference\, its agenda and participants’ bios can be found on the event website.

SUMMARY:Conference 'Capitalism\, personality and culture'
DESCRIPTION:On April 11-13\, 2019 a conference ‘Capitalism\, personality and culture’ will be held in Paris. One of the co-organisers is the Scientific Station of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Paris. \nThe aim of this conference is to present\, in a multidisciplinary way\, various relations between capitalism\, personality and culture\, and confront different contemporary perspectives\, concerning this topic. The effects of trade and industry have been the subject of philosophers\, playwrights and commentators’ reflection since ancient times. This reflection has increased with the development of commercial and capitalist enterprises in Europe since the 18th century. Theatre\, novels and the development of new political and social theories were the source of enlightenment in the same way as philosophy. In the twentieth century\, cinema and television often discussed these issues\, which continue to be of interest to both public and academic environment. \nDuring this conference director of the Polish Science Contact Agency\, dr hab. Małgorzata Molęda-Zdziech will present a paper Which capitalism? – some scenarios of capitalism in postmodern sociological approaches (Z.Bauman\, A.Giddens\, R. Sennett)\, while dr Justyna Kramarczyk\, specialist in PolSCA\, will give a speech entitled Winners or losers? SUMMARY:'Horizon 2020 Dashboard - an online presentation of implementation data on the EU framework programme'
DESCRIPTION:On April 16 2019 at 9.30 am\, the meeting ‘Horizon 2020 Dashboard – on-line system for visualizing data on the EU framework programme. Discussion on the EU-13 participation’\, will be held in the PolSCA Office. During the meeting\, Tomasz Poprawka is going to present the basic functions and options of the Horizon 2020 Dashboard in the light of previously published data on participation in the EU framework programmes\, gathered by the European Commission and the European Parliament. \nThe Horizon 2020 Dashboard is user-friendly but at the same time offers powerful new analytical functions that will inform programme reporting\, impact analysis\, feedback to policy-making as well as decisions on future priorities. All data can be viewed and analysed in aggregated form. In addition\, the new tool also offers detailed views on individual calls\, topics\, countries\, organisation types etc. down to the level of individual projects and beneficiaries. \nThe registration link for the meeting can be found here. \n
