SUMMARY:Webinar: "Will it be possible to save 3 million people from cancer? - The Cancer Mission in Horizon Europe and the European Plan against Cancer
DESCRIPTION:Polish Science Contact Agency “PolSCA” of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Brussels together with the Business Science Poland\, the representative office of the National Center for Research and Development in Brussels invite you to the webinar “Will it be possible to save 3 million people from cancer? – The Cancer Mission in Horizon Europe and the European Plan against Cancer”\, which will be held on Wednesday\, November 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCancer affects everyone\, regardless of age\, gender or social status\, and places a huge burden on patients\, families and society at large. If no further action is taken\, the number of people diagnosed with cancer each year in Europe will increase from 3.5 million currently to over 4.3 million by 2035. A mission in this area will help establish common goals to reverse these trends. Combining efforts across Europe\, the Mission (together with the European Cancer Plan) aims to support cancer prevention\, enable early diagnosis\, reduce suffering\, and improve the quality of life of cancer patients during and after treatment. \n\n\n\nTo provide specific solutions\, the Mission Council proposed an ambitious target: “By 2030\, more than 3 million lives will be saved\, living longer and better”. The main objectives of the Mission will focus on understanding cancer\, prevention (including screening and early detection)\, diagnosis and treatment\, and improving the quality of life of people living with and after cancer\, while ensuring equal access for all. \n\n\n\nThe aim of the webinar is to provide participants with the most important information about the Mission and the European Plan against Cancer. The meeting will be attended by representatives of the European Commission – Joanna Drake\, Mission Manager\, Deputy Director General for Research and Innovation and Annika Nowak\, who will talk about the main foundations and goals of the Cancer Mission and the European Plan against Cancer\, Prof. Konrad Rydzyński\, member of the Mission Council and other experts representing the areas of science\, business\, administration\, and civil society. During two discussion panels\, speakers will talk about how research activities undertaken in Poland will contribute to increasing understanding and detection of cancer\, and how to effectively treat cancer patients and ensure a better quality of life. There will also be a question and answer session with speakers at the end of the meeting. \n\n\n\nAmong the invited experts we will also have a representative of the Polish Academy of Sciences: prof. dr hab. Marek Figlerowicz from the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań. \n\n\n\nWe invite all interested parties to participate in this event! \n\n\n\nThe event program is available HERE (in Polish). Participation in the event requires registration using the form available at the LINK.

SUMMARY:PolSCA webinar series on Horizon Europe :: Cluster 6 “Food\, bioeconomy\, natural resources\, agriculture and environment”
DESCRIPTION:The Polish Science Contact Agency (PolSCA) of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Brussels is hosting a next meeting within “Webinar series on Horizon Europe”. The main purpose of this particular webinar will be to present cluster 6: “Food\, bioeconomy\, natural resources\, agriculture and environment” of Horizon Europe. The current research and innovation funding opportunities in this part of the framework program are set out in the Work Program for 2021-2022. \n\n\n\nThanks to our special guests: representatives of the European Commission\, Mission Boards and National Contact Point (NCBR/KPK)\, the meeting attendees will strengthen their knowledge about priorities\, specific objectives and expected impact of the cluster 6 as well as about the funding opportunities within 7 destinations of the cluster for 2022. Moreover\, the participants will be given detailed insight into the evaluation novelties under cluster 6 with a special attention to Do Not Significant Harm criterion. This will be followed by testimonials of the Polish researchers sharing their experiences gained from the Horizon 2020 funded grants. Eventually\, Mission Boards members will present closely related to cluster 6: Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters and EU Mission Soil deal for Europe. \n\n\n\nThe event is open only to academics and research managers of the Polish Academy of Sciences. \n\n\n\nThe webinar will take place online on November 30\, 2021 (Tuesday) from 9.30 – 13.00. \n\n\n\nThe full agenda of the meeting is available HERE. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe main objective of the activities undertaken as part of the PolSCA Webinar series on Horizon Europe is to strengthen the knowledge of the EU framework programme for research and innovation – Horizon Europe (HE) among representatives of the scientific community of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS). The participation in Horizon Europe (2021-2027) will undoubtedly be a great challenge for scientists and research units in Poland\, including employees of the PAS Institutes. Yet\, Horizon Europe programme\, with a budget of EUR 95.5 billion\, provides clearly a great opportunity to implement ambitious R&D projects\, largely based on multilateral scientific cooperation. \n\n\n\nThe synergy of various activities initiated within the PASIFIC programme under the PAS headquarters\, combined with dissemination and training activities undertaken by the PolSCA Office in accordance with its mission shall contribute to increasing the effective participation of the research institutes of the PAS in projects funded under Horizon Europe. In order to further enable that\, PolSCA is involved in building and strengthening an informal support network dedicated to scientists and research managers of PAS institutes in the context of the EU framework program for research and innovation\, with an emphasis on Horizon Europe. \n\n\n\nPolSCA initiated the roll-out of these webinars in the first half of the 2021. The kick-off meeting included the general introduction to Horizon Europe and a national support system. This was followed by a general introduction to the HE pillar II\, including strategic planning\, missions and partnerships. In the second half of 2021\, a number of follow-up webinars are being delivered by PolSCA team ranging from a detailed overview of selected clusters\, to various HE instruments (e.g. Widening measures).
