PolSCA Office organized a webinar series on Horizon Europe, focusing on Open Science in practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second part of the series, titled “Publishing Strategies & Platforms,<\/strong>” aimed to explore current tendencies and engage in a public discussion on high-quality, transparent, open, trustworthy, and equitable scholarly publishing, as emphasized in the recent Council conclusions.<\/a><\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The webinar commenced with opening remarks by Tomasz Poprawka from PolSCA. Then Alea L\u00f3pez de San Rom\u00e1n<\/strong>, Legal & Policy Officer at the Open Science Unit of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Research & Innovation<\/strong>, presented the ERA Policy Agenda and the Council Conclusions on Open Science. This session provided insights into the European Research Area’s objectives and the Council’s call for immediate and unrestricted open access to research funded by public funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A roundtable discussion <\/strong>on publishing models and the future of Open Science followed. The panel included Alea L\u00f3pez de San Rom\u00e1n, Paul Ayris <\/strong>from UCL LCCOS<\/strong>, Iryna Kuchma<\/strong> from Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL)<\/strong>, and Natalia Galica <\/strong>from the National Science Centre, Poland<\/strong>. The discussion was moderated by Emmanuel Kulczycki <\/strong>from Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the implementation session, Kelly Woods<\/strong>, Senior Associate Publisher at F1000<\/strong>, presented the benefits for researchers in publishing with <\/strong>Open Research Europe<\/strong> <\/a><\/mark>(ORE). ORE is a publication and open peer review service for research funded by Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, and Euratom. The session covered the publishing process, including article submission, publication, data deposition, open peer review, and article revision. Criteria for becoming a reviewer were also discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The webinar aimed to deepen the audience’s knowledge of publishing strategies, Open Access, and the practicalities of utilizing the Open Research Europe platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Council’s conclusions on high-quality, transparent, open, trustworthy, and equitable scholarly publishing served as a key reference point throughout the webinar. The Council emphasized the need for not-for-profit, open access, and multi-format scholarly publishing models with no costs for authors or readers. They encouraged national open access policies, immediate open accessibility of scholarly publications under open licenses, and the recognition and reward of peer review activities in the assessment of researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The webinar provided a valuable platform for researchers, research managers, and administrators to explore Open Science practices, engage in policy discussions, and understand the practical aspects of publishing within the Open Research Europe – one of enablers of Open Sciences policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PolSCA webinar series aims to strengthen the knowledge of the Horizon Europe framework program among the scientific community of the Polish Academy of Sciences<\/a><\/strong><\/mark> and facilitate effective participation in ambitious R&D projects through multilateral scientific cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The webinar series, in conjunction with other PASIFIC program activities<\/a><\/mark><\/strong> and PolSCA’s support network, contributes to enhancing the participation of Polish research institutes, including the employees of the Polish Academy of Sciences, in projects funded under Horizon Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
