The number of women with a career in research\nis slowly growing in Europe. Still, they remain significantly underrepresented,\nand their potential not fully recognised and valued. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Equality\nbetween women and men is a core value of the European Union, actively promoted\nin all aspects of life by the European Commission. What is the situation in\nResearch and Innovation? Are women participating and contributing to it to the\nsame extent as men? Or is the so-called \u2018leaky pipeline\u2019, the phenomenon of\nwomen dropping out of research and academic careers at a faster rate than men,\nstill prevalent?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The She Figures was produced in close collaboration between the European Commission, Eurostat and the Statistical Correspondents of the EU Member States and Associated Countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The She\nFigures 2018 presents the latest available official statistics on the footprint\nof women in the research landscape. The data follow the \u2018chronological journey\u2019\nof researchers, from graduating from higher education programmes to acquiring\ndecision-making roles, while considering their working conditions and\nintellectual outputs. The publication highlights also the differences between\nwomen and men in all these respects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
