On June 6 2019, the conference \u2018Digital Transformation in the New Era: Current Status and Future Challenges\u2019 was held in Brussels. The event was organized by the representatives of the V4 Group: Slovak Liaison Office for Research and Development (SLORD), The Polish Science Contact Agency of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Czech Liaison Office For Research, Development and Innovation (CZELO) and Permanent Representation of Hungary to the EU. The goal of the event was to gather experts, specialists, researchers and practitioners from various fields who are directly or indirectly involved in the issues of digital transformation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The conference was divided into two parts. The first part included a panel discussion\nto which representatives of the European Commission and the OECD were invited.<\/strong>\nDuring this session, they discussed how to combine various political\ninitiatives related to digital transformation and enter them into the next Multiannual\nFinancial Framework (MMF) for 2021-2027. In addition, speakers underlined that\nin the era of digital changes it is important to emphasize the role of\neducation, and more precisely – the development of advanced digital skills,\nwhich are particularly useful in terms of using new technologies.\nResponsibility for this kind of education should be taken by academia (universities,\nresearch institutes) as well as by business environment – enterprises have to\npay attention to ways of finding and maintaining good employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second part of the conference was an\nopportunity to present concrete examples from the Visegrad countries, both from\nthe perspective of practitioners and government representatives<\/strong> who want\nto actively participate in the digital processes at the EU level. As it turned\nout, the objectives of the Visegrad Group countries remain similar,\nnevertheless the strategies and ways of their implementation are slightly\ndifferent. Among the invited speakers were Polish representatives as well. Justyna Romanowska, an expert on digitization in the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU in Brussels<\/strong>, spoke about the Polish strategy for sustainable development, Digital Poland project and issues related open data, digitizing industry or artificial intelligence (AI). At the invitation of the PolSCA Office, the conference was also attended by prof. Stefan Dziembowski from the University of Warsaw, laureate of ERC grants, specializing in cryptography<\/strong>. Professor Dziembowski talked about cryptographic documents, blockchain and peer-to-peer networks. He also mentioned that the most important task facing us in the era of digitization is to ensure an effective and safe data transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
