In February, on our website, we published an article<\/a><\/strong> on supporting research and innovation through funding schemes announced by cross-national networks such as Joint Programming Initiatives (JPIs) and ERA-NET networks. At that time, we presented the call portfolio of the National Science Centre, and on this occasion a PolSCA webinar<\/a><\/strong> dedicated to this topic was held. This time, we would like to encourage you to familiarize yourself with the current offer of era-net calls of the National Centre for Research and Development<\/a><\/strong> (NCBR), which supports mostly applied research and new technologies. The NCBR portfolio in that matter was discussed during another webinar<\/a> <\/strong>organised by PolSCA. All funding schemes presented during both webinars and described below are still under the Horizon 2020 framework program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Due to the large number of NCBR\u2019s initiatives, below we present only selected funding schemes. For this reason, we invite you to follow the broad NCBR\u2019s offer, presented on its website<\/a><\/strong>. As each funding scheme has its own separate terms, conditions and evaluation criteria, it is necessary to carefully read the call documentation and the NCBR\u2019s requirements each time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CURRENTLY OPEN CALLS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The ERA-NET Cofund MarTERA<\/a><\/strong> initiative aims to strengthen multinational cooperation in the field of marine technologies to ensure a competitive advantage in this discipline within the European Research Area (ERA). The network supports research on the development, implementation or significant improvement of an existing marine production technology, as well as the implementation of a new product or services to strengthen maritime and marine technologies as well as Blue Growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MarTERA Call 2021<\/a> targets research groups addressing following topics: 1. Environmental friendly maritime technologies; 2: Innovative concepts for ships and offshore structures; 3: Automation, sensors, monitoring and observations; 4: Advanced manufacturing and production; 5: Safety and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following countries committed themselves to fund this cross-national call: Belarus, <\/strong>Belgium, Germany, Malta, Norway, Poland, Romania, RPA, Turkey. The evaluation process has two steps: joint pre-proposals must be submitted no later than March 26,<\/strong> 2021<\/strong>, whereas research consortia invited to submit full-proposals will need to meet the deadline of September 10, 2021<\/strong>. The announcement of the final results of the selection procedure is scheduled for autumn 2021. ERA-NET Cofund on Raw Materials (ERA-MIN3<\/a><\/strong>) is a global, innovative and flexible pan-European network of 24 European and non-European research funding organisations<\/strong>, aiming to continue strengthening the mineral raw materials<\/strong> community through the coordination of research and innovation programmes on non-fuel and non-food raw materials (metallic, construction, and industrial minerals<\/em>).*<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first ERA-NET Cofund ERA-MIN3 (Joint Call 2021<\/a>) is to support research projects on raw materials for sustainable development and the circular economy*. <\/em>The scope of the 2021 Call addresses the following topics:<\/strong> Topic 1. Supply of raw materials from exploration and mining; Topic 2. Circular Design; Topic 3. Processing, Production and Remanufacturing; Topic 4. Recycling and Re-use of End-of-Life Products Recycling and Re-use of End-of-Life Products. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Countries participating in the call: Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada (Quebec), Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, RPA, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey.<\/strong> Joint pre-proposals must be submitted no later than April 1,<\/strong> 2021<\/strong>. Research consortia invited to submit full-proposals will need to meet the deadline of September 1, 2021<\/strong>. The announcement of the final results of the selection procedure is scheduled for December 2021. In the JPI HDHL<\/a><\/strong>, 26 countries from within and outside of Europe are working on a programmed approach to align national R&I strategies and to fund new research, in order to facilitate true understanding of the relationship between diet, physical activity and health.<\/em>*<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the network announced its 5th<\/sup> call for proposals ERA-HDHL (2021)<\/strong><\/a>: \u201eAddressing adverse and beneficial effects of food ingredients and food processing on hypersensitivities to food\u201d<\/strong>. The aim of this call is to address how food ingredients and food processing methods can induce or prevent the occurrence of food intolerance and allergies among the consumers.<\/em>*<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Countries participating in the call: Belgium, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Spain, United Kingdom. <\/strong>The call applies a one-step application procedure \u2013 joint full proposals should be submitted until April 8, 2021<\/strong>. QuantERA II<\/strong><\/a>, <\/em>coordinated by the National Science Centre, is currently the leading European network of public Research Funding Organisations (RFOs) for Quantum Technologies (QT). QuantERA has managed to efficiently mobilise, coordinate and pool financial resources between regional, national and EU research programmes in the area of QT for funding ambitious research and innovation in jointly identified and selected topics of common interest. Its main goal is to stimulate and intensify Research and Innovation in the field of QT at the European level through a framework for funding transnational collaborative projects and, more broadly, coordinating national and regional programmes for funding research in this field.*<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The QuantERA Call 2021<\/a><\/strong> call is going to fund international research projects that are expected to be aligned with one of the two topics: 1. Quantum Phenomena and Resources (QPR);<\/strong> 2. Applied Quantum Science (AQS)<\/strong>. The total call budget is 40 M euro. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list of participating countries is impressive:<\/strong> Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey. Deadline for submitting pre-proposals is May 13, 2021<\/strong>, whereas deadline for full proposals submission is September 15, 2021.<\/strong> Start of awarded projects is scheduled for early 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this call for proposals Polish research teams may apply for funds through the National Science Centre for Research and Development (link<\/strong><\/a>) or the National Science Centre (link<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Program AAL<\/a> \u201cAgeing Well in the Digital World\u201d <\/strong>is the program that aims to improve the quality of life of the elderly by enhancing the development of technology and innovation in the field of healthy aging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multinational call for proposal AAL Call 2021<\/strong><\/a> \u201eAdvancing inclusive health & care solutions for ageing well in the new decade\u201d<\/strong> aims to support innovative, transnational and multi-disciplinary collaborative projects. While keeping an open call approach (i.e. open to all 8 AAL application areas), the Call 2021 would like to stress three elements, namely an inclusive health & care approach (health prevention, preservation of physical & mental health, social participation), the stimulation and upscaling of innovation in active & healthy ageing through health & care eco-systems and the accessibility of digital solutions to end users, e.g. through education for greater e-literacy<\/em>.*<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ERA-NET 2021 Joint Call on Circularity<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is a joint transnational funding initiative in the field of agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) research, focusing on circularity in mixed crops and livestock farming systems with emphasis on climate change mitigation and adaptation.*<\/em> The call was implemented by four networks: ERA-NETs SusAn<\/strong> (Sustainable Animal Production Systems), FACCE ERA-GAS<\/strong> (Monitoring and Mitigation of Greenhouse Gases from Agriculture and Silviculture), ERA-NET ICT-AGRI-FOOD<\/strong> and SusCrop <\/strong>(Sustainable Crop Production).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M-ERA.NET 3<\/a> <\/strong>is a strong European network of public funding organisations supporting and increasing coordination and convergence of national and regional funding programmes on research and innovation related to<\/em> materials and battery technologies to support the European Green Deal.*<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The M-ERA.NET 3 Call 2021<\/strong><\/a> topics are following: 1. <\/strong>Modelling for materials engineering, processing, properties and durability; 2. Innovative surfaces, coatings and interfaces; 3. High performance composites; 4. Functional materials; 5. New strategies for advanced material-based technologies in health applications; 6. Materials for additive manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Countries participating in the call<\/a>:<\/strong> Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey. Deadline for submitting pre-proposals is June 15, 2021<\/strong>, whereas deadline for full proposals submission is November 17, 2021. <\/strong>Results announcement is scheduled for January 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this call for proposals Polish research teams may apply for funds through the National Science Centre for Research and Development (<\/strong>link<\/strong><\/a>) or the National Science Centre (<\/strong>link<\/strong><\/a>).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UPCOMING CALLS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

EJP SOIL<\/a> <\/strong>– Program EJP on Agricultural Soil Management <\/strong>is an agricultural soil management initiative that\ncontributes to addressing key societal challenges, including climate change,\nwater and future food security. Its aim is to develop knowledge, tools and an\nintegrated research community to support a climate-friendly, sustainable\nagricultural soil management that: enables sustainable food production,\nmaintains soil biodiversity, and lastly \u2013 maintains soil functions that protect\necosystem services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new call for proposals will be announced by the network on April 1, 2021<\/strong>. According to indicative timeline the deadline for submitting joint proposals will be in September 7, 2021<\/strong>, while the announcement of the call results is expected in late 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ERA-NET Cofund TRANSCAN-3:<\/a> Sustained collaboration of national and regional programmes in cancer research <\/strong>with a strong background in funding cancer research, embodies an excellent model of cross-national cooperation by bringing together 31 funding organisations, from 20 countries, with the common goal of supporting high-impact transnational cancer research through cross-national joint calls for proposals, and by an efficient investment of dedicated national\/regional public funding, leveraged with foundation\/ charity-based resources and EU financial support.*<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first call in the frame of the TRANSCAN-3: “Next generation cancer immunotherapy: targeting the tumour microenvironment”<\/strong> will be announce on April 6, 2021 <\/strong>r. by 28 research funding agencies representing 19 countries. According to indicative timeline the deadline for submitting joint pre-proposals will be in late June 2021, whereas full proposals \u2013 in November 2021. The call announcement is available <\/strong>here<\/strong><\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the presented funding schemes, NCBR plans to announce further calls under the Horizon 2020 framework programme, such as EJP Rare Diseases<\/strong> (rare diseases), Era PerMed<\/strong> (personalized medicine), Neuron Cofund 2<\/strong> (neurobiology), Era-Net EnerDigit<\/strong> (digital transformation of energy systems and networks).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
