Meeting with an expert: New trends in technology for renewable sources using nanomaterials

The Polish Science Contact Agency in Brussels is delighted to invite you for a meeting with the expert prof. Monika Kwoka entitled “New trends in technology for renewable sources using nanomaterials”. The meeting will take place on 9th December 2019 between 9.30-11.30 at the PolSCA premises at Rue du Trone 98 (first floor).

Description:

Photovoltaics technology, which converts solar energy into electricity is expected to be the most promising strategy among the common clean renewable energy sources. It is well known that already the fourth generations of the photovoltaic cells based on the various type inorganic and organic semiconductor nanostructures (hetero-junctions) have been elaborated. Apart from above, the most important parts of every solar cell are the transparent electrodes, the light trapping layers, as well as electron transport layers, which are commonly based on the transparent conductive oxides (TCO), and directly determined its final efficiency.

This presentation will show a novel trends in the technology and characterization of the low dimensional TCO nanostructures for above mentioned potential photovoltaic, including mainly zinc oxide ZnO, titanium dioxide TiO2 and tin dioxide SnO2, with a special emphasis on their specific surface/interface properties playing a crucial role in electron charge transport inside the solar cells.

Prof. Monika Kwoka obtained her master’s degree in engineering in technical physics in 2003 – specialization: Optoelectronics, in 2007. doctoral degree in physical sciences, and in 2015 at the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, postdoctoral degree in technical sciences, discipline Electronics. She deals with nanotechnology of electronic materials and their application in environmental monitoring and medicine, cooperating with the best research centers around the world.

Currently, she is a professor at the Silesian University of Technology, working at the Faculty of Automatic Control Electronics and Computer Science as deputy dean for Science and International Cooperation. Winner of many awards and distinctions, including the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Scholarship for an Outstanding Young Scientist and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Award for scientific achievements. Participates in projects of the European Commission and financed by the National Center for Research and Development, National Science Center and Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Vice-president of the Academy of Young Scholars of the Polish Academy of Sciences, as well as a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences Committee for the dissemination of science.
