‘Discussions on Horizon in the PolSCA Office’ – a series of meetings for representatives of Polish regions in Brussels
In May 2019, Polish Science Contact Agency began a series of meetings devoted to the EU framework programs, both Horizon 2020 and changes as well as new instruments proposed in Horizon Europe (HEU). The purpose of the monthly meetings is to be better prepared for the process of consulting the Strategic Plan (to be launched in July) by building a broader knowledge of the research and innovation framework programs and discussing or developing solutions that enable faster information about this key stage of HEU creation in the regions. The series of meetings is addressed mainly to representatives of Polish regions in Brussels, who can propose some solutions supporting the scientific community at the regional level.

On June 24, 2019 (Monday) at 2 pm a meeting for Polish regional representatives in Brussels will take place. It will be the second meeting in the series ‘Discussions on Horizon of Europe in the PolSCA Office’. The topic of the meeting is the second pillar of the next EU framework program in the field of research and innovation, which will cover issues such as missions, partnerships and clusters.
Digital transformation – V4 Conference
On June 6 2019, the conference ‘Digital Transformation in the New Era: Current Status and Future Challenges’ was held in Brussels. The event was organized by the representatives of the V4 Group: Slovak Liaison Office for Research and Development (SLORD), The Polish Science Contact Agency of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Czech Liaison Office For Research, Development and Innovation (CZELO) and Permanent Representation of Hungary to the EU. The goal of the event was to gather experts, specialists, researchers and practitioners from various fields who are directly or indirectly involved in the issues of digital transformation.

‘Enhancing Gender Equality and the Gender Dimension in Research and Innovation’ – Training for Policy Makers
The National Documentation Centre (EKT) is organizing on June 20th, 2019 at the National Hellenic Research Foundation Training Event for Policy Makers. The event is organized in the context of the Horizon 2020 GENDERACTION project, which aim is to create an innovative policy community to support the implementation of the European Research Areas (ERA) priority on gender equality.
The event will provide a forum for dialogue and exchange of experiences and best practices on gender equality. In particular, the event will explore issues such as the design, implementation and monitoring of gender equality policies and plans in research performing and research funding organisations, the role of research funders in integrating the gender dimension in research and innovation. The participation of representatives of European organisations during the round-table discussion will provide the opportunity for exploring avenues for strengthening further the gender dimension at EU level.
The event targets representatives from research performing and research funding organisations, representatives from bodies whose work focuses on gender equality, gender equality experts and scholars and young researchers.
The language of the event is English.

What future for Europe after the last European elections? – report from the conference
On May 28 2019, a conference ‘After the European elections. What future for Europe?’ was held at the University of Warsaw. This French-Polish-German scientific meeting took place as part of the series ‘Academic looks: seminar Actualité critique’, organized by the Centre of French Culture and Francophone Studies of the University of Warsaw and the French Institute. The co-organizers of the event were: the Science Department of Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Polish Science Contact Agency in Brussels, the Societas Humboldtiana Polonorum, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Institute of European Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Warsaw in cooperation with the École Normale Supérieure Paris.

On 4-5 June 2019, the “Transforming and Digitizing Industry” study visit was held at the headquarters of the Wielkopolska Office in Brussels. The event was addressed to the leading representatives of the Polish manufacturing industry, research and innovation units and business environment institutions. Among invited speakers were also representatives of the European Commission (including DG RTD, DG CONNECT and DG GROW), as well as representatives of Polish ministries, for instance, the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology and the Ministry of Digitization.

On 3-5 June 2019, the second edition of the international course ‘Navigating Brussels. How can the EU help you to develop your scientific career?’ took place in Brussels. The course was addressed to European PhD students and young scientists. During the first day, within the session entitled ‘Tasks and activities of the Science Liaison Office’, Justyna Kramarczyk, PhD, specialist of PolSCA, presented main tasks, goals and activities of the Polish Science Contact Agency in Brussels.

The digital transformation and the integration of digital technologies into all areas of society and economy is the most recent challenge that the European Union is facing, and the Visegrad Group region is no exception. Digital transformation has already become a powerful driver of social transformation, reshaping individual lives and interactions.
Digital transformation means a strategic, planned and organizational change – this change calls for the development of appropriate policies, regulations and various instruments to support this process while keeping it in within the limits we consider necessary. The Visegrad countries as the members of the Union are contributing to the commitment of establishing the Digital Single Market and want to ensure that people and companies fully benefit from the digital transformation.
Therefore, the aim of the Conference is to bring together distinguished experts, professionals, researchers and practitioners from various areas, which have been directly confronted with the uptake and real applications of digital transformation. The event is divided into two main parts: 1) the panel discussion of the EU policy representatives will focus on different policy initiatives at the European level and their interaction within the next MFF (2021-2027); 2) the second part will present concrete examples from the Visegrad group countries, both from practitioners’ and governmental perspectives, that confirm the continuous interest of our region to be an active player in ongoing processes proper to the digital transformation at EU level.
In terms of audience, up to 100 participants covering Member State and Associate Country delegations (attachés); European Commission, European Parliament, Committee of Regions, national offices; IGLO members; associations and other stakeholders interested in digital transformation.

Workshop :: ICT-H2020 consortium building
On 5 June 2019 Czech Liaison Office for Research Development and Innovation (CZELO), Lithuanian RDI Liaison Office (LINO) and the Slovak Liaison Office for Research and Development (SLORD) together with other associated Brussels based RTD liaison offices from EU member states and H2020 associated countries jointly organise a half-day Consortium building workshop around selected topics of the upcoming 2019 calls of the Horizon 2020 Information and Communication Technologies. The objective of this hands-on event is to prepare ground for consortia building: to give opportunity to discuss concrete cooperation possibilities, to exchange the expertise and learn from each other. Total number of participants is estimated around 50 people. Working language is English.
