How to demystify ERC in 150 minutes? At the 1st Polish-Italian Conference on Chemistry, Materials & Biomedicine (CMB) in Rome, Expert from the PolSCA Office ran an interactive workshop, “Demystifying the ERC: Strategy & Success” It was concise, hands-on and lively – just the way we like to work with researchers.
What we did?
ERC essentials – schemes, evaluation criteria, the two-step process, and writing tips.
Pitch your ERC idea – 3-minutes, no-nonsense idea pitches, solo.
You are the Evaluator – assessment of a mock proposal using real ERC criteria (project: ground-breaking nature, ambition, feasibility; PI: capacity, creativity, independence), plus scoring rationales.
ERC myths – a quick session busting common misconceptions.

We were joined by ERC grantees: dr Róża Szweda (UAM) and dr Krzysztof Fic (PUT). The discussion was moderated by Katarzyna Kubica-Oroń from the National Contact Point (NCBR), and introduction by Michał Surowski (BDN PAS) highlighted upcoming WP2026/FP10 context. Thank you!
