Effective communication, dissemination, and exploitation – successful valorisation of knowledge and research results in Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe News

Communication, dissemination, and exploitation activities are an integral part of Horizon Europe projects to maximise the impacts of the EU research & innovation funding, deriving from the Implementation Strategy for Horizon Europe and principles of the European Research Area (ERA) that aims to create a single, borderless market for research, innovation and technology across the EU.

Communication measures should promote the project throughout the full lifespan of the project. The aim is to inform and reach out to society and show the activities performed, and the use and the benefits the project will have for citizens.

Dissemination is the public disclosure of the results by appropriate means, other than resulting from protecting or exploiting the results, including by scientific publications in any medium.

Exploitation is the use of results in further research and innovation activities other than those covered by the action concerned, including among other things, commercial exploitation such as developing, creating, manufacturing, and marketing a product or process, creating, and providing a service, or in standardisation activities”

Dissemination and exploitation plan

Project applications in Horizon Europe must contain an outline for dissemination and exploitation of the results, which should be developed into a comprehensive plan during the first six months of the project.

To support project consortia in dissemination and exploitation of the results, the European Commission has developed a few online tools.

Horizon Results Booster

Horizon Results Booster is the initiative by the European Commission which aims to maximise the impact of research projects funded by the framework progrmmes.

Service 1 Portfolio Dissemination & Exploitation Strategy –develop a portfolio of results and design an effective dissemination and exploitation strategy (Module A, B and C).

Service 2 Business Plan Development – develop an effective business plan

Service 3 Go To Market – get your research ready for commercialization

Horizon Results Platform

Horizon Results Platform is a repository of results of the EU-funded research and innovation projects with a high potential value to be utilized by policymakers, investors, entrepreneurs, researchers, experts or any interested citizen.

Horizon Research Platform provides Project result search currently with almost 2000 results, that includes needs of the consortia in terms of dissemination and exploitation of the results, target audiences, description of technology and innovation aspects, and contribution to Sustainable Development.

Open science

Open Access is the practice of providing online access to scientific information that is free of charge to the user and is reusable.

The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) provides researchers, innovators, companies and citizens space where they can publish, find and (re)use data for research, innovation and educational purposes.

Open Research Europe is an open access publishing platform for the publication of research stemming from Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe funding across all subject areas.

CORDIS: The Community Research and Development Information Service (CORDIS) is the European Commission’s primary source of results from the projects funded by the EU’s framework programmes for research and innovation

CORDIS Results Packs – Multilingual collections of up-to-date articles that focus on a specific theme, bringing you results that you can apply in your domain

Horizon Impact Award recognises and celebrates societal advancements through research and innovation.

This award is the European Commission’s initiative to recognise and celebrate outstanding projects that have used their results to provide value for society. These projects must have been funded by FP7 and/or Horizon 2020 funding programmes and they must be closed by the time of application.
